Over his lifetime, folk artisan Emil Gehrke and his wife created hundreds of handcrafted windmills and whirligigs out of spare parts, household items and assorted ephemera. After their deaths, the pieces were slated to be destroyed, but friends and neighbors rallied to save the collection, as well as establish a permanent public home, where the slowly disintegrating, but still functional art can be enjoyed today. The film documents the formation of the collection, as well as the sights and sounds of the machinery coming to life under power of the wind.
