I know a boy who cuts his own hair,
irons his pants and pulls out the chair
For me he will always have time of day
But he insists he has no middle name
all the time, so we gave him one ourselves
so he would never be mistaken with anyone else
Was it whisky? Was it water? Wine? Or gin?
Still I remember the night
we baptized the gentleman

The one who opens the door, opens the door for me...

Always so conscious about what he wears
He needs his father to show that he cares
Table manners, but he's always flirting
He rather keeps quiet than say that he's hurting
We used to rip him off, we even wrote a song
It doesn't seem right anymore now that he is gone
The words were too crass and the chords were too strong
I wore my lipstick and perfume
to write the gentleman's song...

The one who opens the door, opens the door for me...

His love is like a flower
Love is the train
Love is the desire
we try to stick in each refrain
Love goes next to peace
but love is stuck in pain
You better take a little time
Go drink a little wine
He's a friend of mine
We had our good and bad times
Yes, he knows the sun will shine on him
if his heart is kind
But girl, he's looking out even if your love is blind
They get nervous when they meet him
They can see it in his eyes:

this one will open the door, open the door for me...

He's a gentle man
with two blistered hands
I'm crying, yes I am
I lead this gypsy band
all across the land
I have no five year plan

The one who opens the door, opens the door for me...
