  • the focus of ballet is far too great on technique. look at her she is beautiful! so much carisma, expression, true dance quality. and yet i sit here judging technique, like everyone else watcing this video, in my head critisising turnout etc, as we have all be trained to do as dancers. I hate the way i percieve ballet as a result of those around me, and only wish i was older so i could have lived through a generation where artistry came before technique.

  • Still today there are dancers, who adore dancing and put their everything into it, who have similar 'bad feet' and low extensions to Fonteyn. And they will be told they are bad dancers now, because of that technique. It's a shame because we could have a real variety of ballerinas if there were still that focus on musicality and expression. :(

  • Greatest Aurora ever - just so musical, and her acting is so natural and spontaneous. I love watching her face! :-)

  • It is really sad that if you posted this video and Margo Fonteyn wasn't famous, that all the comments would be about how there are 10 year olds who are better than she is. Ballet has lost so much of its soul and charisma now that technique has become the focus over artistry.

  • piiiiiiiiiinça

  • I always torture myself thinking i'll never be as good as professional ballerinas i see today. I admire them deeply. But then, i remember that passion is most important and what i see now, this wonderful ballerina who SMILES when she dances, moves me more that the other dancers.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I had the honor of seeing Margot Fonteyn dance Aurora with Michael Somes long ago. She was magic. She was beautiful. Film can only show you a representation of a dancer. It can't show you the magical presence that permeated every corner of the theatre. It can't show you the impact it will have on your very soul for all your life. Film can only show you what the camera saw, not what the world saw.

  • Turn out? extension?...there's a lack of both here...Although im not a fan of her, i can say that she dances like heaven.

  • she's ugly but talented

  • You can tell that she didn't wash her feet, which may have led to problems with gangrene in her 20s. But, she overcame great obstacles--especially when she pioneered dancing in the opera, Lipshitz.

  • @KALEIDOSCOPEN She also had a "sickled foot",, but, it never interfered with her perfection!
