  • their knees are a little too close together

  • Control 24 is not a mixer. It´s a daw controller with build in (crap) preamps.

The AWS is a real mixer with biuld in daw controller.

The only thing I find a downside for the AWS is the lack of compressor per track.

  • I can smell his cheese from London, he's insane!!

  • I worked with it in my school, at SAE in cologne.

They also had an Icon from Digidesign wich is only a remote-control and a Neve 88RS.

The SSL was the best hardware wich I ever worked with. The Neve is much bigger but it has not that great EQs and Dynamics which are in the SSL.

I love you pults, but they are a bit expensive for Homeproducers. Won't you make me a birthday gift with an SSL AWS 900? :-D

  • cool !!!

  • You certainly can. Every channel has a mic and line input which can be chosen with a single switch and they will both pass through the channel strips (in analog).

You can also control your DAW via the AWS which may be why you're thinking it doesn't pass audio but it does both.

Seems like a pretty neat desk, hope this helps.

  • i understand the eq section is available in the tracking stage, but can you take advantage of the analog eq in the mixing stage?

are the signals coming back into the ssl digital or analog?

  • The AWS has 24 channels of SSL pre's and eq's.

It also has 2 channel compressors and the sought after SSL stereo bus compressor.

Yes, this is a real mixer.

  • how is the AWS a real mixer, if you are using plug-ins? this is still considered mixing in the box. Analog mixing is using real eq, comp and FX. digital rules in the editing stage, but not in the mixing stage.

This is basically a front end with a control surface. However the bus section is quit nice, somthing different than it's competition. Although you could just bring a few stems out from the box via d/a conversion and run thru a rack of gear designed for summing and stereo processing.

  • You were too nice when you said the Control 24 pre-amps were crap. But you re exactly right about the Control 24 being a DAW controller, Only people who want the SSL AWS 900 make the money to buy one.

  • This is an awesome board. We have one at the studio i work for in jacksonville. A great engineer teaching me also. its awesome
