Chairman Hensarling:
"I went home over the constituent work week to speak with my constituents about the budget. They wanted to speak about unemployment and high gas prices. We have seen one of the most serious recessions followed by one of the most tepid recoveries in the history of the postwar era. We believe that is attributable to the policies of the President and the previous Congress.
"I am actually a former officer of a green energy company. I dream that one day my children will drive around in hydrogen powered cars. I dream that one day they will have homes that are off the grid, but a dream is not a substitute for a strategy. We have an administration that for all intents and purposes has waged war on carbon-based energy, which could make America energy independent.
"When I have constituents in rural east Texas who say 'Congressman, I don't know how I'm going to drive to work, I don't know how I'm going to take the kids to school, I don't know how I'm going to take grandma to the doctor at $4 per gallon prices.' It is time to quit dreaming, and to start producing American-made energy in America for Americans."
