Is this a rhetorical question? I do recognize PTSD as a "disorder" that is "treated" by psychiatrists, not as a neurological disorder, clearly definable as such, and rightly treated by a neurologist. I think that the basis of confusion, and any clarification, is to be had by coming to terms with the inconsistencies and omissions of the psychiatric community. By the by, what is indeed being "treated" in PTSD? Any in-fighting over the putative disease of PTSD, lies in the profession's disavowals.
On the opposite side of the same coin, to answer in the negative, that I know no one with PTSD, is no more illuminating. I have "known" people with all manner of psych label, but never, did I know that they actually had a true brain disorder, rather than a stigmatizing label. Psychs treat and label because there is a social and political give and take to the respective profession. One knows a disease, without labeling, however, with psych labels, one must observe behavior and utterances as sick
There is considerable debate whether PTSD should even be the concern of psychiatrists, who should just stick to poisoning millions of human beings, locking up the same number each year, yahta, yahta. PTSD is, arguably, a bona fide pathophysiological event, not a psychiatric disorder, as psychs seem suggest. However, I think that there is a lot more at stake than a mere reclassification. Is this redundant?
