that was quality!! I was a council worker at the time- that happened right in front of me!!! A great spectacle.

@adst3risgr8 i live in lowestoft where this happened and i was there when this happened listening to my Uncles Radio scanner. The Harrier carries a set capacity of water to cool the engine while hovering as there is no air flow through the intake cowels either side of the cockpit. The pilot spent too much time hovering and the coolant ran out causing a catastrophic engine failure.. ending up in the Sea.. the pilot came down on the body shattering his ankle

@jodygeary1986 Engine didnt fail... The controls for the nozzles and throttle are side by side in the harrier, and he pushed the one for the nozzles. By the time he realised, the aircraft would'nt have been able to recover.

i was there too but the other side of the pier i remember the announcer telling every one to get out of the water because of the jet fuel, and the next display was supposed to be an air-sea rescue but they ended up doin it for real lol

as was i.. he stalled then doing the nodding nose move befor returning to base
what happened. Looks like the engine fails
