In this video we show how we teach the trained retrieve. Featured is Amos a British Lab, and Sammy a German Shorthair in the first step of "Hold" in their trained retrieve process.

  • hi i have a question i kinda like this method of training a dog to hold and out do you think u can use this same method to teach a sport dog to hold and to out let say a dog your training for schutzhund

  • Great video! Effectively, the teaching of the retrieve (i.e. to find the shot bird upon order and retrieves it to his handler) must be realized with a lot of patience. We should not hesitate to return several times backward if we judge it necessary, this as long as lesson was not perfectly assimilated. Me also, to teach to the dog to keep the dummy, I hold him lightly the underside of the mouth by repeating "wait" then I take the dummy slowly by saying "gives", I caress and I reward.
