Ancient Pankration allowed all types of striking and grappling both standing and on the ground, the only prohibitions were biting and eye gouging, and they sometimes wrapped their hands and/or wrists with leather... Modern Pankration uses gloves and prohibits hand strikes to the head... Japanese Pancrase does not use gloves and prohibits fist strikes to the head, allowing open handed blows... Friends, the rules are not important, or what we call ourselves. Be humble, train hard, and live well.
