Playing Ability Test (PAT) Level 2, drill 2, Stroke straightness (and speed).
Starting with ball in hand at the headstring, stroke the cue ball to pass through the gate which is exactly two ball widths apart. The cue ball must go through the gate three times, not more or less, without touching either ball. PAT level 2 drill 2 requires 12 such shots. 50% success rate is average.
In Level 1 of the test, the cue ball must pass thru the gates only twice. In level 3, it must go 4 times, and stop within one and a half diamonds of the head rail.
This is a real test of stroke straightness and speed. Absolute center ball on the horizontal axis is required.
