Mediterraneo Academy Award Winner of 1992 (Kastellorizo)

Takes place on the remote Greek Mediterranean island "Megistis" (Old Greek) or "Kastellorizo" (Italian/Greek) during the early years of WWII.

Megisti is part of the Dodecannese (means: 12) Islands of Greece which has been left by Italy to Greece after the WWII.

La seducente musica di questo bellissimo film riesce sempre a cancellare il grigio piovoso di un inverno in citta' e far volare la mia mente verso le roventi spiagge, i fragranti oliveti e le azzurre acque del mar mediterraneo.

@8000jk The Italian army was armed like crap at the time, small weapons were also often inadequate or even useless, while the good ones were seen in very small numbers: very few SMGs (though the best of the war, Beretta 38), HMGs outdated and the modern ones few. LMGs (Breda 30) many but unusable jam-happy crap. Hand grenades were plastic and only half of them actually blew off. No portable AT weapon whatsoever except for a handful of AT rifles. The standard mortar was undergunned, 45mm.

Outstanding Film with a masterfully superb soundtrack. I bught the soundtrack on CD. What a musical wonder and solid acting in the film to go with it.

Many years ago my mother and I watched this magical film together. This film is a gem. It contrasts the silly dictates of the military against the natural inclinations of the soul, as exemplified by the actions of the soldiers on this paradisaical island. A return to Eden. Each man gravitated toward his own bliss and became whole, that's why years later the remaining friends returned to this island, the one true place they felt happy and complete.
