Here are the new Texas state laws that are religious in nature, or laws "respecting an establishment of religion."

Come to the state/church rally in Austin on Sept. 8 at the state capitol building! It'll be fun!

  • Ok. So your saying that if a child wants to learn about a certian religion that its a bad thing? Now you are just a one sided, one track mined person who only cares about himself and is just looking for something to complain about to mess up someone elses lives. Now I believe us christians go to heaven and you will be stuck in hell unless you find the lord. Now thats just my beliefs and i honestly respect yours. You can believe what you want but all i ask is think of others lives as your own.

  • drtbike20 - Well actually, no I didn't say that if a child wants to learn about a certain religion that it's a bad thing. Religion is bad, but wanting to know about it is not. We Atheists encourage people to investigate religions and be aware of them. Children too. Of course it'd be nice if we didn't have a reason to know about religion, especially when Christians like you threaten us with violence like you are. If you "honesty respect" my beliefs, you wouldn't even bring up the idea of hell.

  • Wait.... bills are laws right?

  • Udedenkz--No, laws start out as bills brought to the House, debated on, voted on, and if successful, move onto the Senate, which repeats that process. If it passes the Senate vote, it's passed the Legislature, and then goes on to the Governor. If he signs it into law, the bill becomes a law. We had several religious bills turn into religious laws in 2007 in Texas.

  • I've no problem with comparative religions classes that teach ABOUT religions... just don't teach it as though the religions are true.

  • Can the jackasses that passes these laws be arrested for treason?

  • first one is wrong you do not have to say any pledge

  • @ZackAttack261 how who reacts when who says the pledge

  • @ZackAttack261 how? so it was ok at first?

  • @ZackAttack261 so, most of us were white, doesnt make slavery right

  • Texas got dumberer

  • I suppose that under this philosophy that we should be seeing a dramatc decrease in residual offenders, being that 70% have turned their life around. That's great news, and I am excited.

  • Bible study classes are not "investigating" a religion, they are religious indoctrination. An investigation, generally must take into account evidence, and not from a biased standpoint (ie other sources than the "bible") I wonder if there will be a Quran class or a Wotan class? It isn't about whether or not you have religious convictions, its more about whether or not this is an educationally viable subject, which it clearly is not.

  • im from england i was brought up in a christian family and honestly i think texas should soften up on the religious laws. some people that dont worship a religion love texas, its their home and some poeple cant afford to move out of the state. what are they supposed to do.
