Players need to "learn to turn" and staying connected is the only way to get there. A case study by Sparky Parker that breaks down the concept of staying connected through the swing process and what it really means to a hitter.

  • He's definately NOT squashing the bug 2:47 is he.

  • Coach Sparky, are there any drills that you have that promote connection?? Please share. Thanks so much

  • for those out there who r still confused, linear hitting is when BOTH the back and front sides continue moving twoards the ball, in rotational hitting, the back side continues twoards the ball, but the front side stays ridgidly put or else moves in the opposite direction ( A.K.A. opening up)

  • whats really interesting if you look closely, is that the ball blurr of the approching pitch has a much flatter angle than the ball blurr after the pitch is struck. He's not hitting the ball on the EXACT same plane that the ball is on. I've heard that if the ball is his hit perfectly, the ball would go right past where it was released from, the pitchers ear.

  • This is what a majority of my teammates have problems with. they stay back pretty good, but they anchor down that back hip and can't have full rotation, there's one guy, 6' 2", 270 pounds, HE IS HUGE!, if he could get his back hip through, he'd be hitting the ball 350 feet probably (he's only a freshman). now don't get me wrong, sometimes he does get his back hip through, and the result is a ferocious swing, but it doesn't happen often enough (every time he gets a good pitch to hit)

  • I seen aton of hitting video, a ton. What I like about the approach here, is that it's really broken down into just a few VERY important part's.

One of the things I'm always emphasizing to my little leaguer's, is not to chase the ball with their hands. When they do, they end up being very unconnected and, seperated. I try to get them to connect the rear elbow as much as they can at swing initiation, in order to have them swing both upper and lower body as a unit.

    Great vid.

    Thanks.

  • mmmhmm11, you can't include the stance when analysing a swing because there's an infinite number of stances used and no players should look the same before footplant , but all players MUST look the same from footplant to contact, that's the number one area that you will see a weakness in a hitter's swing. all high OPS hitters look/looked like this

  • Does the backside tirn? O r does both frnt and back turn?? How can one turn and not the other? WEAK analysis dude!

  • i think that when viedos of hitting are posted on the web, the entire process of hitting should be included, starting with the stance and ending with the finish of the swing. IDK y the stance is almost always left out when viedos are shown. All information is important when viewing from different perspectives respective to others viewpoints different than our own. It seems that so much time is spent on footplant to contact point and not enough on the entire process of the swing. mmmhmm...
