@myfuruta Uhh sir I would have to say, in my personal opinion and expertise on the that I wholeheartedly AGREE WITH YOU. Yes they kick but when the weather gets bad.
Got 140k on my wifes 04 forester, and it still purrs like a kitten.
just keep up with your fluid changes and tires and it will last. I know a few people in my neck of the woods that have outbacks and foresters in the 200k plus mileage range.
Very well built, provided you take care of it.

forget the AWD drive and offroad capabilities, its got a sunroof and contrasting cabin materials...give me a break.

I'd use toyota technology to make myself a campfire out of a Prius :)

The SG Forester from 2006-08 has the same engine as the 2009+ Forester, it's an EJ253. There may be tiny tweaks here and there, but it's darn near the same thing. If you factor in transmission performance, there were definitely some tweaks when the SH Forester debuted.

Does anyone know how this model shapes up against the new one? Namely in terms of engine performance in the base engine.

The cup holders seem to be the most important thing to mention. And almost nothing was told about the off road abilities of this great car.
