The market economy leads to economic and civil progress only if it is oriented to the common good. This was one of the messages of Pope Benedict XVI in his Saturday discourse to the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation, which on Friday held an international meeting on models of economic and social development. Freedom in the economic sector must insert itself in the framework of a legal context that places it at the service of integral human freedom and in a vision of responsible liberty, the core of which is ethical and religious.
