Terry Newton on Gilmour tackle: ""I saw Gilly and thought 'I'm going to whack him'. I went in to hurt him, but I never intended to knock him out."
Terry Newton was banned for seven games for the tackle on Sean Long and three games for the tackle on Lee Gilmour. He appealed against the seven match ban for the hit on Long, but was hit with another seven game ban. Terry Newton was handed a two year ban in February 2010 after testing positive for human growth hormone. On 28th September 2010, Newton was found hanged at his home.

I'm a Saints fan but for fucks sake there's some pretty harsh shite coming out for Terry Newton on here. Sure I hated him as a rugby league player ('cos he was a dirty wigan bastard !), but let's not forget that off the pitch he was a normal bloke making a living who had a wife and kids. And above all he was a good old fashioned rough, tough player. This vid shows that he went too far sometimes but that was just him, he was the kind of bloke you wanted on your team, not playing against you

Newton, Smith, Pongia.
The dirtiest front row of any rugby league team ever, under which Sean O'Loughlin served his apprentionship.

Terry Newton was no saint, I agree with that, if you'll forgive the irony of that statement. But this doesn't sit with me all that well, as a Wiganer. And another thing, serious question here, given the Lance Armstrong situation and now confession, how long before several very high profile rugby league players get caught doping? Because it seems to me they're all at it, and I know Tez was no different, neither was Keiron Cunnigham.
