You mean how they proudly march along being "rich" until the oil dries up, then they turn into a ghost town?

They are entirely dependent on oil.

Not a good plan if history is any indication.

Not entirely. Abu Dhabi is still dependant but they are in the process of diversifying their economy. A quick search on Google would show you the vast multi billion dollar projects they are undertaking. The government also has hundreds of billions of investments in Western as well as Eastern countries. The nearby emirate of Dubai is now not dependant on Oil but on finance services and tourism.

UAE leaders when speaking to all arab people:
"Dear arabs, you see Iran is powerful like a lion (unlike us)..Now, I am strong enough to make it angry by saying Arabian Gulf instead of Persian Gulf...ha ha ha..I can even say it your islands are mine..."...and the wealthy arab person smiles at tv and goes back to bed with his wives! Some miles away in other arab countries, poor arab kid sleeps hungry in street and doesn't know the new name for Persian Gulf is a good thing to feed him or not.

If oil were to become worthless, the dysfunction of the most prominent
Muslim societies would suddenly grow as conspicuous as the sun.Muslims might then come to see the wisdom of moderating their
thinking on a wide variety of subjects. Otherwise, we will be obliged
to protect our interests in the world with force—continually. in that case our newspapers will begin looking like the book of revelations
