  • I know that dogs in training do not have the same rights as service dogs, So my question is this: Can you fly on a plane with your puppy in training? I go to school in Florida but am from philadelphia so I travel back and forth a few times a year. If I can fly on the plane with my dog in training, what airlines are the best choices? Do they give you a hard time? Is it difficult to fly with your dog in training?

  • @laurasammyfox Traveling with a puppy-in-training takes a lot of coordination, but many of our raisers have done it. You first need permission from the airline. They aren't required to allow your puppy on the plane, but many do allow you to do it. The most difficult thing to do is to time your puppy's feeding and relieving schedule so they're as comfortable as possible for the trip.

  • i know it would be hard to give up the dog, but my question is will the dog want to give up being with you for someone else?

  • @motosportjunkie, Guide Dogs uses Labrador and Golden Retrievers for this work because this breed of dogs is particularly adaptable and will work for pretty much anyone who provides the correct motivation. This is one reason our organization stopped using German Shepherds because they typically don't make that transition well. I hope that helps!

  • @djhey20 I really hope u get a dog soon and it means a lot what u said about careing for them wish u the best of luck

  • I'm planning on getting a guide dog after I finish some independent and mobility training. If I happen to be matched with one of the dogs you raised as a puppy, I promise you I will love him or her with all of my heart.

  • @DJHey20 ..Speaking as someone who just had their first puppy leave (to go back for formal training) a few weeks ago, yeah it's hard, but it is so worth it. knowing that my work is going to help a blind person "see" is totally worth it.
