@tasman006 they could use the same ammo, but germany and many other countries want nothing to do with depleted uranium, which gives the m829a3 its leathality, plus the future is the xm360e1 gun, currently being developed, weighs less than the 120 mm gun and is more powerful than the 140mm gun

@packr72 Reinmetal the German company that made both L44 and L55 say the L55 gives 30% extra Muzzle velocity so it would be an advantage to have the L55 since the L44 uses the same amunition for example new APFSDS, M829A2 and M829A3.

The Leopard 2A6 is much better compared to the M1-A2 Abrams. Better gun,better frontal protection, and just looks a helluva lot better!

@tasman006 not likely the m1a3 will still be equiped with l44 gun, its easier to just design new rounds, than equip our tanks with a longer gun, then design new rounds
