  • Why is it always Americans that are shooting hippos? The answer is simple, they love killing and they're willing to travel far to do it.

  • Those people who say hippos are "rare" and "beautiful" and "gentle" YOU DON'T KNOW A DAMN THING. Hippos are not gentle. They kill more humans a year than SHARKS and they are in Africa by the plenty.

  • @Antithropocentric Also a living animal cant tell the difference between white trash and people like you. Heres a true story I read in class as a kid. There was a guy who cared for the protection of bears just like you care for hippos and he too went like its bad to shoot bears they dont do anything to you unless you provoke them, but after the story it said one night while sleeping in his tent a bear came and killed him. That just says more why some species should downsize.

  • @Antithropocentric No they hide in the water and wait till you get close enough just like any other pray.

  • @Antithropocentric However if they just killed the hippo to hang its head and throw everything else away, I would have to agree it was wrong but neither of us know.

  • @Antithropocentric Yes I am aware of most of those examples you explained to me, Also sure those guys paid to go out and kill a hippo for trophy hunting but who cares mine as well have some profits made while keeping the population of hippos who are just mean vile creatures that just go off attacking us humans. Besides I dont see why you should have a problem with people hunting hippos because I am sure they would eat the hippo meat or not leave it go to waist.

  • Why do self-loathing whites with anti-hunting neuroses watch videos of what they dislike? Masochism? It's sad that Mozambique, after half a millennium as Portuguese territory, fell into utter barbarism. Until 1974, the cumulative GDP of Mozambique, Angola, South Africa (including the former German Southwest Africa), and Rhodesia accounted for over 90% of Africa's economy. The Portuguese-built Cabora Bassa dam is unique in sub-Saharan Africa. It's an engineering masterpiece, but is falling apart.

  • @maxb89321, you have the luxury of living in a time when hunting is far more regulated than it used to be. It was finally controlled because of the massive body count, not pure altruism!

Are you aware of the Passenger Pigeon and the near extinction of the American Bison? The American Red Wolf is extinct for the same reason. And the Dodo in the 1600s.

The Tiger is just one modern example. The last male lions in Namibia, Bumi, etc. were shot by trophy-takers in recent years. Deal with reality.

  • @fishface66able, this isn't true hunting, i.e. done for survival reasons. Deal with the context of the situation. Trophy-takers are like that Dirty Harry psycho who killed "because he likes it."

    -----

"As between the skulking and furtive poacher, who hunts for the sake of meat, and the honest gentleman shooter, who kills for the pleasure of sport, I find the former a higher type of humanity." (Edward Abbey)

  • @maxb89321, that excuse has been used to wipe out thousands of animals entirely, like the grizzly bear that used to roam California, which ironically is still on the state flag. The last one was shot by petty folk like you in the 1920s. Sure, they can be scary but that doesn't mean they "must be" eliminated.

In this case, these guys PAID to go out and kill a hippo they never would have encountered normally, so your motive is BS. Trophy hunting is not a reaction to danger, it's assassination.

  • @DevilishlyGood98, hippos only kill if people get too close to them, and people are getting too close because people have a major overpopulation problem (75 mil. annual rise). Context is everything.

I've seen similar arguments about bears in Alaska that most people have no reason to get near. This boat load of punks didn't HAVE to be out there.

If you want to compare body-counts of species killed by Man vs. the converse, the ratio is millions-to-one in a given year, unless you count microbes.
