Red Skelton's Guzzler's Gin sketch, from 1943.

He was a comedian, a very long time ago. This still cracks me up.

  • BTW, turn on automatic captions! You'll get: ((upsetting the nerve test)) ((conflict of interest drexel after-dinner)) (( judge garland knifes moves drink )) ((burglars were laying)) ((there's no backbase dot)) (( hydraulic twenty-five years of war)) ((luv drink)) (( function ))

  • 76,048 hits!? I'd abandoned this YouTube account because I couldn't be bothered to set up a Google account to continue using it. Now I'm back! Glad so many people think it's funny. SHVOOOOOOOOO!

  • I think it would have been even better if he'd walked off camera each time he turned his hat over and swapped characters... but that's not how he did it on stage.

  • Of course this is from The Ziegfeld Follies! And you're all right about Lucy's Vitameatavegamin!

I know he says smooth and not "Shvooo" but it sounds like shvoooo at the end.

  • This is indeed from The Ziegfeld Follies, not from TCM Celebrates Judy Garland as stated by YouTube above.

  • Physical humor?

    Non-violent, physical humor?

    Holy shit!

  • This is, I believe, a vignette from a rather surreal movie called "The Ziegfeld Follies," wherein William Powell, reprising his title role from "The Great Ziegfeld," is up in heaven which, for him, is a really nice drawing room, and he speculates what a contemporary (i.e. 1944) Follies would be like.
