Princess Mononoke Making 【1】 (12_14) has come back with English subtitles here!
In this 12th episode, Miyazaki's power of imagination, or rather power of obsession goes farther than anyone could expect!
Also, his advice on the novice animators contains full of insights.
Enjoy this great Backstage series higesho's originally posted for us!

  • hey that night snack food bell is very funny!! i love the culture of their studio environment~~

  • Oh did you get a funny touch of it when Miyazaki's saying ''Mr and Ms Work Forces...''? I'm glad you got it because that proves my translation was put in the right way.

  • Wonderfull video!!! But, there isn't an italian version?! :(

  • 5:48 I thought he said "these are delicious looking colors up here,"

  • Did I just watch him come up with the idea for Spirited Away right there? That was awesome!

  • 何かジブリ社員になったような感覚

  • fucc this

  • Oh I see, I was wondering why they made it so complicated

  • Now I know how to make a movie!

  • Well, after mononoke they started using computers.

The drawings and the backgrounds are still being done by hand, they're just scanned and the scenes are composed in the computer.

  • Studio Ghibli likes to keep their old traditions (unlike Disney) and still paints almost all backdrops and people by hand - like in Mononoke Hime, however, they use modern machinery for effects and for shooting. Their latest work, Gake no Ue no Ponyo, is also mostly hand-drawn by Miyazaki. But their new project, titled "Ninokuni: THE ANOTHER WORLD," has more parts animated digitally, which makes sense because it's not an animated film, but a game.
