The famous "Ball Bearing" 1992 ad for the Lexus ES300, where they showed a ball bearing running through the cars' tolerances.

  • I remember this commercial. Great times!

  • This looks newer then a 92 lol

  • i tend to judge a product patly by how well it is marketed and Lexus was relentless in that area and rightfully so. I remember this ad vividly as a college student studying engineering in 1993

  • which also means a toyota is put together good

  • @trance20001 If anyones noticed lots of lexus sedans are based on 05 to 10 avalons interior wise and rarely externally.(They also go down to safety)

  • @trance20001 No, Lexus cars are made on separate assembly lines and in many cases in separate factories. watch?v=d-mlEAR3eDs is Lexus' 5 series competitor, this car shares nothing with a Toyota. It is on a RWD platform with unique engines, chassis, & engineered to very high standards and with lots of innovative technology that Toyotas can only dream of. Yes Toyota engineers these cars, but that is not a negative, they have lots of talent & resources and build some of the best cars in the world.

  • @Slimecrazy234 So, if Lexus is not dressed up Toyota, then why do a particular safety recall always affect Toyota or comparable Lexus for the same fault? They even share same engine, but Lexus has different software configuration and different bore spec to make it more powerful than Toyota. In fact, many plants makes both the brands in the same assembly line, by same workers.

  • @trance20001 Acuras are all essentially Hondas, I agree with you there. Infiniti and Lexus though are a bit different. Infiniti makes almost exclusively RWD cars, unlike FWD mass market Nissans. The cars Lexus makes that compete with the Europeans (IS, GS, LS) are also on exclusive RWD platforms that are not shared with Toyotas, so in those cases they are not at all merely dressed up Toyotas for the same price. Luxury cars are profitable, and the Germans typically have the highest margins.

  • @Slimecrazy234 Agreed. There are heaps of wanna be types who buy leased bmw or audi basic model ones and then put neon lights on them. My point is that European cars are way better to drive in terms of sportiness and feel. I have a Japanese and German both and I compare them everyday when I drive. whats ticks me off is how they dress up Nissan, Toyota and Honda and sell it for the same price as German brothers, with fancy names. Do you know why these three manufacturers took this route?

  • @trance20001 I don't think they are a poor person, but your assertion that it's people driving Lexuses who are starters is what's twisted considering most Lexuses are bought out right and leasing one actually makes it more expensive than leasing a German car. The 3 series for example is the most popular compact executive sedan and it also has by far the best lease deals in the segment. It's the cheapest way to get into a status symbol.
