Join students and faculty for a presentation by David Hesmondhalgh, professor of media and music industries, and director of the Media Industries Research Centre (MIRC), Institute of Communication Studies at the University of Leeds. His topic: Theorizing and researching media labor. From Dr. Hesmondhalgh: "What is the nature of creative media work? Does it really offer less alienation and greater autonomy than other kinds of employment? How do creative workers understand the trade-offs between security and autonomy?" This paper examines these issues and others, drawing upon research carried out in three major creative or cultural industries: television, magazine, journalism and music.
