( http://www.TFLcar.com ) The 2010 Detroit Auto Show featured a lot of interesting new cars but the one that really stood out was the new Tesla Model S which promises to be on of the first production electric cars with a range of almost 300 miles on a single charge.

  • there really needs to be an electric racing counterpart to NASCAR. At the dawn of automobiles racing is what pushed car technology forward as it still does today. Electric cars would and related technologies would advance so much faster!

  • Two points: 1) The $49K version of the car will not have the 300 mile range battery. The 300 mile battery will be available for a car closer to $80K. I am not sure why Tesla does not make this more clear. 2) Be careful when putting down your $5K to reserve your Model S. The money does NOT go into an escrow account but rather is used in the companies working capital. When Tesla runs out of cash, it may be difficult to get your $5K back.

  • It's so fucking sexy. i will get one no matter what. unfortunately some way oil companies will find a way to kill it.

  • @NotTart5 I quoted you the facts, those are government statistics with regards to energy production of solar and wind compared to wood in the US....what energy source is used to produce the vehicle, the steel, the plastic, all carbon based production, and what source is used to create the electricity to charge the car, all carbon based energy, so this notion that electricity is from solar and wind is false...the fact is if 25% of cars were electric, the US electric grid would collapse, FACT!!

  • @Deke1 No, that's not a fact at all - you're simply making up statistics.

Even if the US was powered entirely by coal (it isn't), the carbon 'production' of an electric vehicle would still be 1/5th of a regular combustion vehicle. Basic calculations can show this.

  • @NotTart5 you can cover the entire US with solar panels and wind farms, IT WILL NEVER PRODUCE ENOUGH ENERGY TO SUPPLY THE US, THAT'S A FACT!!! Right now wind and solar account for less than 2% of the energy use in the US where wood burning to heat a homes accounts for more..it's a .failed energy source... the technolgy has yet to be created, yet the US sits on enough energy to use for atleast three hundred years and yet dont use it, now thats some asinine policy..solar and wind = hot air fail

  • @Deke1 Electric cars can use renewable energy such as wind and solar. Combustion engine vehicles can't.

  • @16sag7 first off, the electric cars dont work well in cold climates, the electric grid couldn't handle it and what do you think makes the electricity to run these cars, oil, coal, natural gas.....so electric cars are not the future.......the technology is not yet created and wont be probably for 30-50 years

  • For the love of God release the damn thing!

  • @rashedm001 thats a hybrid
