He wouldn't have literally risked getting the True Death as punishment for killing Longshadow in season 1 if he didn't genuinely care for Sookie, or even when he ran to her in daylight and nearly fried at the end when Rene was trying to kill her.

Yeah sure, it's interesting to see Bill go dark like he is, but I don't care for his character anymore and it really doesn't fit his character. (in the show at least, I'm not sure about the books) He wouldn't have resented Lorena so much for the things she made him do because that is exactly what he wants now.
