According to traditions and beliefs after the great ancient Marshallese supreme god Lowa created the islands he was so pleased with his creation that he called them Ia'Kwe, Ia means rainbow and Kwe well means you. Thus the Marshallese greeting came to be Ia Kwe or Yokwe. Ia Kwe means it so so nice to behold such a sight it is like seeing a rainbow the most beautiful sight. Ij Iakwelok aelon eo ao ijo jiku.
