This guitar is a Real 1956 Gretsch 6128 Duo Jet.
This guitar is the same guitar that Cliff Gallup used on the recording of Gene Vincent in 1956. I reproduced the tone of Cliff Gallup using this guitar.

  • Nice job, what amp and echo unit did you use ?

Looks like on the of those tweed fenders in the corner... Bassman ?

  • Thanks!! I used Fender 59 Bassman and Maestro Echoplex or Danelectro Reel Echo. Because I have both, I'm not sure, but both can make the almost same sound.

  • Great sound, great playing, awsome guitar!

  • Thanks petegorilla, your playing is great too.

  • tell me about the Bassman.Real or reissue or Victoria/Dan

  • The Bassman is a Fender reissue. I have a clone 59Bassman(not Fender) also, but I think the reissue one is better for the sound. The clone has a strong middle range, but the reissue has wide range. In order to make the Cliff Gallup's sound, an amp with a wide-range and clean sound is fine, I think. Jeff Beck also used a reissue Fender Bassman on the recording of "Crazy Legs". Have you heard the CD? That is a great and perfect sound.

  • well done kid you got the real deal and cliff never had that bridge(doesnt matter though) i played with the original blue caps in england and i was a bluecap for the night(wow)for all the purist out there cliff never liked the studio sound produced for him in anyway and thats gospel. keep rockin kid and dont let anyone put you down enjoy rocknroll there only jealous and most of all develop your own signature way of playing. good luck wayne

  • I thought Cliff's guitar was stolen. ;)

  • o: awesome.

    Perfect Cliff tone.

  • nice!!

  • re conn88key, I was never aware that Cliff Gallup visited England. I remember GV playing over here but I think they were largely Pick up bands like Sounds Incorporated.

  • Love that sound.

  • miracle job!!!

  • It's got a timbre all it's own doesn't it?? Nice job!

  • I think there is too much delay here , it should just be a slap back with a bit of reverb , but beside that it sounded good ! did you strung your guitar with flatwound strings like cliff did ?
