but with cost of bulbs at $150-450 each ... cost is more than what i paid for the projector.

just wonder if every big tv reqiures a replacement lamp and if not which big tv dont need it. and ive been told that playing video games (xbox 360) reduces my projector lamp life..is that tru

You are obviously a professional. Noticing that you have special equipment for re-lamping only reinforces this videos message. I would say that the average person may not want to go through the hassle only to have their attempt fail and waste money.
Using someone like you would be a good idea, however, if a person is not going that route, it seems safer to just buy the whole lamp module, just to be on the safe side. Especially in consideration of lamp prices.
