A beautiful 50's villa in a suburban area of Mexico City needed an extension. We wanted a volume that contrasted with the existing building. Since users were going to be kids we proposed a continuous unlimited space. The scheme is that of a snail shell, providing an intimate interior space for the children and a ramp that connects the existing villa to the garden. The building consists out of a metal structure covered with polyurethane foam. The polyurethane surface was later equalized and treated with a polymer coating. The result became an interesting confrontation between two historical moments: a modernist Mexican house from the 1950's and a continuous skin out of contemporary materials.
