You are right, dvlaries. James Brown did 2-3 shows a day, 325 days a year during the 60's and 70's. And hardly slowed down in the 80's and 90's. Great showmanship. Always gave his best. And he respected his fans. He was not arrogant like so many of today's artists.

73 was too young, but when one starts tallying the workload Brown took on his shoulders, year after year, it's a miracle the man made it past 50. There was never a lazy day in Brown's life, never a show where he didn't leave an audience astonished and exhausted with him. Not just other musicians, but sports figures and actors too could never learn too much about showmanship from Brown. May he rest in peace.

If you want to read a really great book about James Brown read the latest bio about him called "The One" by R J Smith. Hell of a book, about a year old right now.

Actually, according to one of his long-time music directors, Fred Wesley (trombone), the Godfather of Soul was kind of an arrogant prick to the people around him. An amazing talent, no doubt, but it sounds like behind the scenes he was a mind-controlling slave driver. Check out Fred's book on Amazon. It's got a good deal about the JB band in it and it's a great read for musicians.
