In fact there is an automatic way of 3D modeling (or reconstruction in fact)... If you have several photos of an object (vase, sculpture, etc.) from different positions it is possible to use PhotoScan (agisoft.ru/products/photoscan
/). You have to add photos, run align step, build model step and build texture step. And you get the result 3D model. =) -
