LONGMONT -- While passers-by immediately rushed to the aid of a 17-year-old girl who lost both legs after she tried to jump onto a moving train Monday, first responders were on scene within minutes of a 911 call, according to police.

A Longmont United Hospital nurse and a lab assistant from the hospital who had EMT training ran to Anna Beninati's side and performed first aid after the girl fell under the train. Nicole Crowley, the lab assistant, reached the girl first, called 911 and kept a dispatcher informed of Beninati's condition while she and Kathy Poiry, a registered nurse, worked to control the bleeding and keep the teen conscious.

  • "the train was moving and they tried to jump onto it" get a fucking clue .. It's a huge part o american culture. Ya know community/traditions that don't exist much anymore..... Shit. Ya either die living or you live dying

  • @livkivi yeah i have but that was more out of neglect because i was eating a burrito or something and blew past the damn light. you know this reminds me of my now ex girlfriends ex who blew his nose off because he was playing russian roulette. i mean the guy looks like fry when he got his human horn poached. it's terrible. i guess you would be right but ive never really done anything dangerous like this. i'm actually kinda lame now that i think about it :- (

  • @arivas713 Yes, she was an idiot, but she learned her lesson, didnt she? Havent you ever ignored red light or done anything risky?

  • @75carlita I do and your probably right about if it was my child but, fuck to loose your limbs because of something so stupid like this, i don't know guy. Compassion yes, Understanding no. This wasn't a freak accident with a harmless passerby or our troops over-seas,[I'm making the assumption you a Yank here, i don't know] were you can understand the risk or your can at least place it on God. but I don't know.....Again i'm seeming really heartless right now so I guess I'll end it at that.

  • @arivas713 I'm sure if this was your child you would feel differently. I and I hope you dont reap what you sow for your lack of compassion!

  • poor kid

  • accident? no, this is no accident. i'm sorry but dear lord what an idiot. when you take your life and risk it on something so stupid, so frivolous then you reap what you sow. i hope that her idiocy serves a warning to others--sorry for the sermon peoples.

  • I've been doing this since i was a very young teenager, it is NOT SAFE... There is code of conduct to train hopping, (*I would never advocate anyone try this for fun or any other reason, it is INCREDIBLY STUPID) , Like where to catch the train (*Within a Train Yard), Have proper gear, and don't ever just "hop" on a train moving full speed.. As well as actually knowing which parts to grab and not to, and how to safely bail in case of accident or emergency.. Just dont be foolish..its not cool.

  • now hopping trains is cutting edge technology

  • If it isn't hard times and you got dimes then you probably don't take train hopping serious
