This is the most common problem you will get a C:31:22 C:31:23 Error code, when you put a tape in, sometimes mode gear problem, which will be in a another video. But you more likely get a 11 at the end of the error code, then it's the mode gear, most of the time it the pinch roller, the plastic locking nut crack and work it way out, sometime pinch roller fall out and will be missing. You can find these parts on eBay or Sony directly.

Is now up for sale , as I have the PC100, which I am keeping

  • i'm trying to find the locking nut online so i can repair this entirely... but am having problems. can someone help me find it on ebay, amazon or sony?

if i need to order the pinch assembly in order for me to get the locking nut, i will do that too.

  • @mindweiser I may have that part, have to find it over the weekend, but part number is X39516801, they go for around $25 buck, but comes with roller and lever.

  • FYI I tried searching on the Internet for just the roller, however no luck. I contacted Somy and they had the p/n for the arm or "pinch arm assembly which contains the roller. The number for the Sony Trv-27 and many other similar models is X39516801. Price is 25.27 USD. You can pull the roller off and install it on your camcorder. Ordered mine thru Amazon.com. Herman Electronics in Miami, Fl also has them as many other outlets. Hope this saves somebody some time!

  • @Aviyaytor

You can pull the roller off the arm, just do it slowly, so you don't crack the locking nut.

  • This vid helps me out a lot! Thats the same part missing on my camera. Any suggestions on how i could find a replacement?

  • @tylernapskrew

You can call up Sony parts department or eBay.

  • ...man nice video!! i have a same problem and now i relase it!! thnx a lottttt

  • @mindweiser NEVERMIND..! it works :) THANK YOU SO MUCH! i have been trying to fix this problem on/off for the LAST 5 years - no joke! and the only solution i ever found to try was hitting it - which it didn't work. THANK YOU!!!

  • just watched a video where they hit it to fix the 31:23 error - it didn't work for me. then i came across your video here... and while i was looking inside my camera to see if i could see the pinch roller and validate whether it was coming off, it literally fell out on me! now, i don't have a locking nut - i checked, hoping it'd fall out too - but it didn't. ahah. anyway, i have a dcr-trv250... but was wondering if it'd work without a locking nut - while i try ordering one? please let me know!

  • Thank you RetroPCDOS for the video. Save me headaches and money!!!!

  • I have completed the job for 37.99 total from Amazon.com. No problem to fix! You have to grasp new foller and gently

apply pressure to pull roller off new arm. Then support the old arm and push the plastic lock bushing and roller assy onto the new pin. Thank you to the poster of this video for allowing me to even recognize that the roller was missing!! Thank you! FYI this is the Amazon p/n they recognize.."SONY X-3951-680-1 PINCH ARM ASSEMBLY OEM ORIGINAL PART X39516801"

  • Thanks!!! You made it so simple. My Sony TRV-330 has been out of action for 2 years with those codes.( After i let my sister use it came back with error codes)

I just got mad and put it up, because I knew it would cost $200-300 to fix.

You are really great at this.Thank you again.
