"The Lord hath anointed me...to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives...to comfort all that mourn...to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness..." (Isaiah 61:1-3)

In a world filled with differing---and oftentimes, conflicting---philosophies on depression, low self-worth and mental health, Carrie M. Wrigley, LCSW, offers profound, gospel-centered counsel on healing through Jesus Christ and the power of His Atonement.

Citing examples from the scriptures and quotes from modern-day apostles and prophets, Carrie Wrigley highlights the hope for "them that sit in darkness" (Isaiah 42:7) and the "complete healing" that is available through faith in Jesus Christ, applied in active learning and growth.

Sister Wrigley has been a counselor for over twenty years, specializing in the treatment of depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, marriage and family issues, and sexual addiction. For an online library of resources to guide healing in these areas, please visit : http://www.morninglightcounseling.org

This video is based on a 55-minute talk by Carrie Wrigley from the 2005 BYU Education Week. The full talk, Christ-Centered Healing from Depression and Low Self-Worth is available in video and mp3 format from BYU Broadcasting, at http://www.byub.org/talks/Talk.aspx?id=1251

A transcript of the full talk is available from Morning Light Counseling.

  • Coming from a place of cognitive dissention from all the BS out there. It is very hard to find the potency of faith in Jesus. This message of yours is one of the few intellegent explanations I have heard amidst the polluted, and contrived messages of faith in Jesus. Your message is not just about depression, but overcoming a multitude of aberrations afflicting us in life here on earth. It seems though you might have left one thing out, that is effort. Without effort the ores will not move.

  • The message in this video is THE ANSWER to depression and every other ailment there is to plague man on this planet! When patients have said they cannot afford a counselor I have always reminded them that they have access to the very best counselor available. All they need do is drop to their knees and He is there! He knows better than all what it is we need to heal. Our part is to keep that line of communication open & one of the most important ways to do that lies in healthy living.

  • @MsEndure2end For 20 long years I have worked to wake people up to the serious dangers of antidepressants. While working with members having severe adverse reactions I have asked if they at least got a Priesthood blessing BEFORE going to a doctor. The answer so far has always been "No, I did not think of that." Seeing so much suffering left me asking why. Finally I understood the test in this nightmare of mass drugging. The question: "Who do you trust? The Savior or the Arm of Flesh?"

  • This sure helps. I am one of those that has done everything in the world with little results. Then looking to Heavenly Father turned out to be the most lasting, deep help against depression. Thank you for this uplifting and true advice.

  • Our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ live today! He is the ultimate healer and our physician! I know this for a fact! His atonement is tremendously great! Thank you brother for posting these positive messages! The church is true and the gospel is everlasting!

  • Sometimes healing is not taking away the problem, but strengthening us to deal with it. Helping us to find the peace, joy, and happiness in life even with the problem still in it.

  • The definition of healing may mean something different depending on the situation. I blessed my daughter that she would heal from her cancer and she died. More than anything we need to pray for understanding and God's will.

  • very important video and presentation on depression and how to overcome it.
