Its finally done, my first real time lapse video. I wanted to make a time lapse video about the photography program here at my school. So I started this little project about a month ago and it started off as my on personal little side project to do while I was at school since I seem to spend a lot of time there. It took me almost a month to get all the footage together and into this video. A lot of footage was taken out or I just didn't use them either because I didn't like how it turned out or it just didn't go with the flow. So I actually have a lot of wasted shots. I ended up taking almost 20 000 photos for this video (which is kind of overkill for a 2:40 video) and its taking up almost 30gb of my hard drive space too! I learned quite a bit about how to do time lapses from this experience too.
Doing time lapses or any kind of video really makes me want to buy a slider, shame the school hasn't really started getting into the video side of things just yet, we're starting though. All the zooming and panning you see in the video is done in post, the camera was stationary throughout the whole thing. One big issue I was having throughout the whole process was getting the correct white balance, for some reason the Nikon D700 I was using (by the way I don't shoot Nikon) didn't want to set a custom white balance. It wasn't because I didn't know how, even several other people (who own D700's) I asked couldn't do it the camera just seemed to be having issues. I even consulted the instruction manual and we were doing everything right it just wouldn't take a proper reading when I shot at a grey card. So that explains why the colours are pretty inconsistent in the video. Though either way I'm just happy I finally finished this.
Like I said at the end of the video, my bad for not being able to get any footage of everyone in the program in particular some of our teachers like Craig Glover or Brian Hiller, maybe next time when I decide to do another time lapse video.
