Psister Pfister Sisters
"Tribute to the Boswell Sisters' Centennial"
Performing dates: 28/6 - 6/7 2008
Style: Traditional, swing
USA
A rare example of a band determined to recapture the swing era, the Pfister Sisters, with their sweet, sensual and engaging jazz harmonies, began to appear on the scene in 1978, enjoying immediate public success and critical acclaim. By 1981 Variety Magazine had praised them as one of the most interesting novelties presented within the very prestigious New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. A remake of the legendary Boswell Sisters (a trio of sisters who in the '20s and '30s codified the laws of jazz singing), and recuperating original arrangements of the era, the Pfister Sisters offer the public a show of exceptional quality, thanks to the vocal talent of the three singers and the fine arrangements. Holley Bendtsen, Yvette Voelker and Debbie Davis, accompanied on piano by the very loyal Josh Paxton , worthily represent the swing tradition, alternating shows on the huge stages with more intimate ones in small jazz clubs. In nearly 30 years of performing, they have sung with Linda Rondstadt, the Neville Brothers and Jimmy Buffet, the latter on the occasion of a recent benefit concert held in New Orleans.
