Episode two of a two-part BBC-4 special program hosted by neurologist V.S. Ramachandran that explains his key findings in certain instances of brain damage that have long been viewed as mere curiosities by the scientific community. This episode focuses on prosopagnosia, the Capgras delusion, and temporal lobe epilepsy.

My apologies for the audio being slightly off, the black bar at the bottom of the video, as well as the temporary video defects; this was the only copy of the video I could find.

This is Part 4 of 5.

  • There's a problem with this video. The narrator woman says that epileptic fits are caused by random neuronal firing. That's incorrect. They're caused by large groups of neurons firing rhythmically and simultaneously - they're not designed to do that and as such the body cannot interpret the signals, hence a seizure. Random firing is the natural kind - it's not precisely 'random' but it's not as strictly patterned as during a seizure.

  • Listen carefully to what the doc says starting at :40. This tendency to "assume" based on what we expect to see........ such truth in what he is saying. This prevents ALL of us from truly seeing what is going on in front of us. Obviously more of an obstacle for some than others.

  • not.. not.. no.

  • This explains Islam,,,Muhamed had epileptic seizures

  • @KoNP69 your comment is 2 years old, but I would like to add that the video you have been watching is also old.

  • @KoNP69 it's a pretty old documentary

  • .... I'll have what he's having.

I had a mystic experience once after doing 10 grams of mushrooms (I'm not religious so I don't know what to call it).

I doubt it's as intense as what he has, but I can definitely relate to the whole not being able to explain it, and people just not getting it. It was the most intense sense of oneness. The few hours it lasted felt like years, centuries, millennia. Everything was one thing, and there was no me; just everything at once.

  • there is something wrong with the clip. the voice of the people seem to be out of sync with the people moving lips. the content sound like a load of crap. are we being duped?

  • @KoNP69 Episode 1 also has a stupid/incorrect remark about the brain made by the narrator when Dr Ramachandran is driving in the car, can't remember what exactly, now.

  • you're scared of your enviroment, so you worship it. Regressed. Respect.
