a Ferry Flight, to Kingston. Were picking up passengers for a delayed flight and bringing them to their destination.
In the video you can hear one of the functions of the TCAS system. What you hear is a TA, Traffic Advisory. This is to advise the pilots that they're approaching another aircraft and to pay attention. In our case, we were cleared to climb to 7000ft and the particular traffic was maintaining 8000ft. And we were advised in advanced by MIAMI's ATC.
Approaching Kingston,.. Besides the weather seen, pretty unusual. Tnx to RR and PM

  • You should change your video names from Amazing MD-80 Cockpit video, because it's awkward to find specific videos when they all start with the same name.

  • @Xircal

trust me you don't feel it, And if there is wind blow the plane off the centre line there going to be correction needed to keep it straight

  • Another nice video, haitiano. Angulation of the camera must have been difficult to capture outside views.

One other thing @Xircal. These large aircraft are less responsive to movements of the yoke at slower speeds. The "exaggerated" movements are needed for the plane to respond as the pilot needs. If at cruise speed those movements with the yoke were done, everybody would get absolutely thrashed.

  • sucks. by the time im a pilot there will be no md-80's in service.

  • Just saw you vids for the first time. I'm hooked

  • I noticed that when the capt. confirmed you were visual he retuned the nav. receivers from the ILS to the VOR. Is this a SOP for your airline?

  • @haitiano1982 Thanks man! I enjoy watching all your videos, great job!!

  • @VPmagal yup a very accurate description ! and yes the passengers will feel a big of this, but without it they will definitely feel something else.

  • @Xircal Old/classic airliners have a lot of play in the control (B-737/ 727, B-707, DC-8, MD-8X etc). That's is what you normally would see the pilots do during day to day ops....now when the weather is inclement, it's a wrestling match with the yoke! when you land a MD-8X or B-727 , the pilot has to "pump" the yoke back and forth during the last 10 feet....for energy management during the flare. (and you have one tiny shot at a smooth landing, when compared to other jets). Hope this helps.

  • Cool video and nice landing. I agree with the other comments...those aren't excessive control inputs, just a bumpy summer approach. Interesting that he had the auto throttles on all the way to touchdown while hand flying the airplane...I've never seen anyone do that before.

  • Great video!
