how to practice meditation without the requirement of religious dogma or spiritual mumbo-jumbo. This video demonstrates the technique of mindful prostration, a sort of warm-up exercise before the walking and sitting, with the added benefit of creating humility and respect towards the meditation practice.

  • I'm still not clear on how we are supposed to say it in the mind, do we say it in the mind as we would hear words when reading a book in our mind or is it more of an acknowledgment without mental words?

  • more as with mental words.

  • try both. I think it's as long as you understand what is going on. Awareness. Labeling (using words) is a good way to become aware of the object and it's states or existence or whatever. But try it, it's your mind. Try using no words in your awareness. I do it all the time. I think it pictures or visualizations all the time. It feels good.

  • Feels good means the mind is still clinging. The words break that since they are a simple remembrance of the reality without judging it as good or bad. Without such a reaffirmation of reality, it is very difficult to free oneself from wrong view, conceit and craving.

  • so when you do all of the three, the prostration walkin and sitting meditation you have to do it as if it was only one?

  • I'm watching this video again because the space you are in is beautiful. "Seeing, seeing; Enjoying, enjoying..."

Thank you for all you do @yuttadhammo

  • As Bhante stated... prostrations is about developing humility and a humble mind... many of us westerners have what appears to be an innate dislike to prostrations, I've seen it a few times in the comments here actually.

You don't need to feel like your worshiping anything as Bhante says, but it is important to develop a humble mind as part of your practice.

  • Thank you, Bhante!

  • Hahaha 6:50 "lowering oh sorry covering, covering, covering."

  • Wooooooooooooo, thank you, and yeah, your voice is amazing, brings me peace

  • Thank you for taking the time to share this with us. I'm a little confused about becoming "unattached" to emotions. How do we be compassionate if we detach?

  • Hey, i am a HINDU. this is what we do to pray and worship our holy god. Specially our KULDEVTA and DEVI, that means the one who is responsibile for wellbeing of only our kul or family. I live in india and i see sceneries like this everyday, lucky me. I meditate and do YOGA everyday but in a temple and according to hinduism like RAJYOGA etc.

  • Is it important to do different types of meditation like this? Why all these different ones? is it so you dont get bored? Or to stop little habbits associated with one particular type? Or what is it?

  • ARE YOU IN THAILAND ?
