Back in your own Backyard - Billie Holiday
In New York on Janary 6 and January 12 1938 two recording sessions were organized. The first as Teddy Wilson and his Orchestra and the second as Billie Holiday and her Orchestra. A total of 12 tunes were recorded.
Buck Clayton trumpet, Lester Young tenor sax, Teddy Wilson piano, Freddie Green guitar, Walter Page bass and Jo Jones drums. Billie did the vocals. Of course I cannot show you film of Billie singing this famous classic. This morning I filmed a number of shots from our own backyard as a background to this wonderful music of Billy and her fabulous swinging musicians.

Way long time ago Columbia released about five double albums of Lester Young's music from 1936-1945. The second was called "A musical romance" and featured the classic pre-war combos built around Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Buck Clayton, and Teddy Wilson. This period was probably Billie's physical peak as a singer, although not necessarily her artistic peak. But Lester was the star of this particular cut - I bet that tenor solo has been transcribed by thousands of musicians. Awesome.
