@BlueAsianDragon Well, in this movie, a 37 day nuclear war happened in the northern hemisphere, and the deadly radioactivity is coming to Australia, where this takes place. They only have a matter of months. Anthony Perkins' character is a naval officer and he is going on a submarine mission to investigate morse code signals from the east coast of the US. He's just telling his wife that if she and the baby begin to get sick that to avoid painful death, they have to take those pills.
