U.S. President-Elect Accepting Congrats

*U.S. President-elect Barack Obama accepted congratulations from nine presidents and prime ministers and returned the calls from world leaders who reached out after his presidential victory. After making the first key appointment to his administration, Obama spoke by telephone with the leaders of Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Mexico and South Korea, hastening the shift in political gravity away from President George W. Bush. The financial crisis, the Afghanistan war, climate change and the North Korean and Iranian nuclear crises dominated the talks, according to accounts from the various capitals. However, a news site in Hong Kong published an article issuing Obama on not including China and Russia out of the nine countries. The article showed dissatisfaction saying that Russia may have not been included because of the tensions held between the two countries, but China has put effort in maintaining the relationship with the U.S. The article also mentioned that the priority of improving the relations which split under the Bush administration may have been the cause.

一方、香港のニュースサイト「鳳凰網」は、オバマ氏が祝電のお礼に自ら電話を掛けた９か国の中に、中国が入っていなかったことを問題視する記事を掲載した。記事は、「いず­れも米国の親密な同盟国である」と理解を示しながらも「世界の大国の中で、中国とロシアだけが外された」。昔から緊張関係が続いていたロシアは「外されても仕方がない」も­のの、「中国首脳は米国との良好な関係維持に並々ならぬ努力を続けてきた」と不満を表した。記事はこの原因について、ブッシュ政権下で亀裂の入った同盟国との関係改善が優­先された、と指摘。中国を冷遇することで日韓などの「恐中国家」に安心感を与え、米国の都合の良いように動かすつもりだ、と皮肉った。

for the record, the only reason China is one of the most successful economies is that they are becoming more Westernized (capitalist) while retaining a work ethic that is seldom seen anywhere else save Asia. A mix of capitalism and socialism seems to be the solution.

capitalism isn't a western invention, China invented banking and currency. the paper money we use today had it's root in China, and so does the inflation, which Chinese first recorded 1400 years ago and understood the importance of money supply to control inflation, which became state policy ever since. what is new is the concept of free trade, back then there wasn't other major country to trade with, the world has changed. being hardworking of course win you success anywhere.
