@kyee7k She learned this dance by just listening to his feet. When her mother reprimanded her for not paying attention when he taught it to her, she contradicted that she was learning it by hearing and not watching. They had a very special friendship that lasted for the rest of his life.

life was very hard for everyone in that period of time with the great depression and in 1935 he had a prestigious job and was respected by actors, producers and studio heads. hollywood had less prejudice and segregation than most of the country at that time. integrating all colors of actors in films was a proud milestone, just as when hattie mcdaniel was the first black actor to win an academy award for her depiction of mammy in 'gone with the wind' in 1939.
