@craniumkazzo No, they were metal 'hedgehogs' as the rangers called them. They were designed by the Germans to damage and scuttle the bottoms of the allies landing crafts and small boats as they came ashore during mid to high-tides. The Germans attached large mines on top of them to increase damage further as well.

Those were for clearing mines on the beach. They were dropped via Airplane I think.
