Julián Herbert, (born 1971 in Acapulco, Mexico) does not only write poetry and prose, but also writes lyrics for and sings with two rock bands. In his readings, Herbert works with videos, sounds and installations, transporting poetry into the visual sphere and thus taking language and images beyond anything known. His works have been awarded the Gilberto Owen National Prize of Literature, the Juan José Arreola Prize and the Agustín Yáñez Prize. He is one of the youngest members of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte and collaborates with the El Taller de la Caballeriza group of artists. Selected texts by Julián Herbert have been translated into English, French, Portuguese and German.
