J'ai entendu cette musique pour la première fois dans la cathédrale de Saintes, en Charente-Maritime, vers 1985. La nef était illuminée par des bougies, et l'ambiance était merveilleuse. L'expérience m'a totalement ravi, le choeur de Saintes étant vétu en robes, avec l'orchestre de Radio Bordeaux. J'ai acheté une cassette toute de suite, et c'est comme cela que l'on gagne des mémoires inoubliables mais inattendues.

@diuscorvus. Puccini is not underrated at all, in fact his operas are the most frequently performed in the US, meaning they're the most popular. This Mass was composed when he was still a student in Milan, and he's obviously still forging his own style- this sounds like a combination of Beethoven and Verdi, but the force of his melodic gifts and are already evident.
