American-Marsh Simplex 'BB' Pump(c.1927 model) in steam, using 200kpa / 14psi saturated steam supply from Australian 'Haros' 240vac electric boiler. Run under steam December 30, 2007 - previously operated on compressed air.

  • How does the valve in these simplex pumps work?

  • @caserules1 Hi there - it's a shuttle valve, a single small piston above the main (larger) piston in the right hand side of the pump in the video.. it moves left and right, change the flow of steam to the main piston below, causing the reciprocating action that you see in the video.
