Heisman Winners Face-Off

2004 Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart faced off against 2003 Heisman Trophy winner Jason White as the Orange Bowl hosted its 18th National Championship, six of which have included Oklahoma.

The game was the first ever meeting between two Heisman Trophy winners, now totaling 14 Heisman Trophy winners to play in the Orange Bowl game.

Leinart won the battle of the Heisman winners throwing for an Orange Bowl record five touchdown passes to garner MVP honors and totaled 332 yards through the air on just 18 completions. Meanwhile, White had struggled throwing three interceptions, losing for the second consecutive year in a BCS Championship game.

The Trojans took advantage of four Sooner turnovers in the first half to jump out to a 38-10 halftime lead. Four of Leinarts touchdown passes came in the first half, including two to Steve Smith.

Smith matched an Orange Bowl record with his third touchdown reception to open up the third quarter. True freshman Dwayne Jarrett added 115 yards receiving and one touchdown.

Sophomore sensation Reggie Bush accumulated 149 all-purpose yards for So. California. Classmate LenDale White totaled 118 yards and two touchdowns on just 15 carries.
