George Lakoff is widely recognized as a leading expert on the use of language in politics. His book "Don't Think of an Elephant" helped unravel many of the mysteries of how language has been used so successfully by "conservatives" in recent elections.
In his new book, "WHOSE FREEDOM" -- Lakoff looks at the ways in which the "right" reshaped the meaning of "Freedom" in their own image, to suit their own targetted purposes, and shows how the Democrates should be using language as they prepare their stategy(s) for regaining power.

  • Man, i dig George Lakoff, his discussion of "Strict Father Family" applies to every conservative in which shapes how society should be governed as. Talk about 1984, and i thought Big Brother wasn't real...but George Lakoff proves the concept of "Newspeak," "Doublespeak" and not to mention "Thoughcrime" as George Orwell once predicted. Dang, this guy is good!

  • @Alfrunk It's not just use of language. It's also psychological differences in how they think and how they organize. Liberals by nature are less talented at groupthink.

  • Liberal and progressives are thinkers in the mode of the "age of enlightenment" and the Renaissance humanists. Questioning, exploring, discovering.

Conservatives keep things are they are - for themselves and for good or ill - and condemn or are afraid of everyone not like them (ie Male, white, middle-aged, American, mid-west, Christian, ...)

  • @alfrunk to your first RHETORICAL question - conservatives have the money and know mind control techniques the best since they have all these conservative so-called "think" tanks at their disposal. "There are twice as many right-wing think tanks as progressive ones, and the conservative ones generally have more money." PRWatch - see The Heritage Foundation, Cato, etc.

  • Yeah I'm sure Lincoln really needed a pr firm. Disgusting idiot.

  • hahahhahaha! Well said.

  • He certainly does nothing to shatter the false left/right paradigm. Both neocons and socialists are the tools tyrants use to enslave everyone's mind, and then their bodies.

  • ah, the things you can learn from PR... priceless.

  • thanks

  • You use your mouth prettier than a 2$ whore.

  • It's smart to employ others that are experts at something to help you achieve your ends. Even "genuinely smart."

Depending on yourself alone to be the best at doing everything involved in achieving your goals is arguable not as smart as surrounding yourself with people who are good at different aspects of things, even outsourcing to other organizations including PR firms.
